Monday

Today will be a great week.

Art - Students are asked to bring in a piece of wood BY THURSDAY

In math, we are going to spend the whole week on decimal multiplication. There might be homework for anyone who doesn't finish their work at school.

In English, we are reading Leinengen vs. The Ants.
We're also spending some time on writing short, clear, concise sentences and paragraphs. We're looking at how to write well and what to do when the teacher says write in your own words.

In science on Tuesday, we are building structures out of pasta and marshmallows. The challenge is to build the strongest structure using he least amount of material. Students will learn how to use triangular trusses to build a very strong platform (out of pasta) that is able to support a math book.

History all week we are looking at the fall of Detroit in the war of 1812, Hull's capitulation, Brock's brilliant offensive strategy, and Tecumseh's famous deception where he pretended to have many more troops than he actually did. It's a great story.

Art - Students are asked to bring in a piece of wood by Thursday. Maybe 12 inches by 24 inches or so. A small board, a piece of plywood, nothing too big, square, rectangle, anything, but flat. Not a 2x4 or a post. Just a board of some sort. Rustic wood is fine. We will be painting on these. Parents can drop off the wood anytime instead of sending it on the bus. In the morning, students should come right in and drop the wood in the classroom rather than holding on to it in the yard. If you have a lot of wood lying around, please donate it for students who are unable to bring any in.
