We're Back! Here's What We've Been Up To

Happy Times. All is well in Grade 7.

English
In class we are reading Tuck Everlasting. It's a great book, ask your child about it. In the past few weeks we have read a lot about politics. We've read about the Toronto Blue Jays, the United Nations, the Galapagos Islands, Sable Island, Stephen Hawking, Malala Yousafzai, Chris Hadfield.

In writing we've been looking at metaphors and parts of speech (nouns, adjectives, pronouns, etc..)

Math
We are working on adding and subtracting fractions.

History
We have finished a fascinating history of the War of 1812. Several students became very interested in this period of Canadian history. They have an essay due in five weeks on the war.

Science
In science we are working on structures and design.

Art
In art, students created some beautiful versions of Claude Monet paintings. They're on display in the hall at school.

Lab
In the computer lab, we are learning a programming language called Scratch. I am amazed at how quickly some students are picking up on it. They can practice and work on it at home. Is there a future tech billionaire in the class? Who knows!

Remembrance Day - There is s trip to Meaford Hall this Friday

Drama
Romeo and Juliet - One student last week (a male) actually asked if we could skip gym and keep working on Shakespeare. I was impressed (not that I don't love gym, but having a bung of grade 7's really into Shakespeare is pretty thrilling). We're going to perform it in front of the school in a few months.,
